CENTRAL COMMISSION FOR HOLDING ELECTIONS AND REFERENDUMS IN TURKMENISTAN

As part of the preparatory work for the elections of members of the halk maslahaty of the newly formed etraps in Turkmenistan, as well as early drop out of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of velayat, etrap, city halk maslahaty and Gengeshes, which are scheduled for March 29, 2026, training seminars were held in the velayats of the country and the city of Ashgabat in accordance with the approved plan of pre-election events.

Members of the election commissions of velayats, etraps, cities, districts and cities within an etrap, villages and gengeshliks, representatives of velayat, etrap and city bodies of political parties, as well as representatives of velayat, etrap and city hyakimliks responsible for providing assistance to the election process took part in the training seminars conducted by specialists of the Central Election Commission from January 28 to 30.

During the training seminars, the work being carried out in the country to modernize the electoral system, as well as the procedure for organizing the upcoming elections were examined in particular, electoral legislation, the system of election commissions operating in elections and the powers of the election commissions of velayats, etraps, cities, districts and cities in the etrap, villages and gengeshliks.

Also, related to the candidate nomination and registration campaign, training sessions provided a detailed explanation of the procedure for political parties and citizen groups to nominate candidates for deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of velayat, etrap and city halk maslahaty and Gengeshes, as well as their registration by the relevant election commission. Furthermore, a comprehensive understanding of the procedures for completing election documents, determining the boundaries of polling stations and compiling voting results protocols by the relevant election commissions was provided.

Special attention was paid to the work that velayat, etrap and city hyakimliks must carry out to facilitate the electoral process.

At the end of the seminars, participants emphasized that the elections to be held on March 29, 2021, under the motto «Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan – is homeland of purposeful winged horses» are an important step toward strengthening democratic principles and a solid foundation for the successful implementation of ongoing reforms in the country and pledged that to make every effort to ensure the high-quality conduct of the election campaign.
