Thanks to the tireless efforts of our National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Honorary Elder Hero Arkadag and our esteemed President Hero Arkadagly Serdar, noble traditions of our people are successfully continued. Respect for elders and upholding their dignity are among the sacred traditions of our people. During the Revival of a new epoch of a powerful state, respect and love for wise elders, as well as smiling mothers who decorate weddings and holidays are ever-increasing.
Honorary elders actively participate in various cultural events held in our country, as well as in propaganda and mentoring work among young people, making a worthy contribution to the further strengthening of national unity and social cohesion.
On the eve of the 34th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Independence – on September 19 – a regular meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan was held. During the meeting, as usual, representatives of the older generation who set a worthy example through their exceptional contributions to the development of the national spirit, culture and noble qualities of the Turkmen people were awarded the title of “Hormatly il ýaşulusy” and our mothers were ceremoniously awarded “Zenan kalby” order. This is a high recognition of the contributions of the older generation to our rapidly developing and improving society, in educating our youth in the spirit of patriotism, hard work, honesty, morality and humanism.
Our Hero Arkadagly Serdar notes: “We attach particular importance to your wise advice, based on your rich life experience and professional career, in implementing ambitious undertakings and strengthening the cohesion and integrity of society in the era of the Revival of a new epoch of a powerful state.” On December 14, 1990, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed October 1 of each year as the “International Day of Older Persons.” The organization and global attention to this holiday grows each year. This holiday celebrated internationally in accordance with a document adopted by the United Nations General Assembly to draw public attention to the situation of older persons, occupies a worthy place in the public life of our country.
In our Independent, permanently Neutral Turkmenistan, this “International Year of Peace and Trust” has been celebrated with great enthusiasm and at the state level for several years now, in our powerful state, together with the international community. As a symbol of high respect and boundless reverence for the elderly, meaningful cultural and social events are held in all regions of the country.
Our esteemed elders – are our main support in strengthening our unity and cohesion, in honorably continuing the principles of hard work and humanism of our ancestors, in educating youth who will devote all their strength and energy to further strengthening the sovereignty of our beloved Motherland. The advice and guidance of the older generation on patriotism, justice and honesty – an exemplary model, strengthening the peace and unity of our society.
In our country elders are highly respected and various benefits are provided for them. The inclusion of “International Day of Older Persons” as a national holiday in our country, at the wise initiative of the National Leader, as well as the creation of the Council of Elders within the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship and within the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan – striking examples of this.
We wholeheartedly congratulate our esteemed elders and our beloved gray-haired mothers on this international holiday, who are firmly united around our lofty goals aimed at strengthening peace and progress on earth.
We wish our Hero Arkadag and Hero Arkadagly Serdar, who so highly respect the older generation, good health, longevity and that their deeds, which benefit the country and the world, will always be successful!
